Another sky stretching out beyond the terrace

The rice paddies in front of me are filled with water, creating a special scene that can only be seen at this time of year.

The blue sky and drifting clouds are reflected on the water’s surface, creating a scene that makes it seem as though there is another sky right at your feet. It is especially beautiful on windless days, and the way the scenery changes with the time of day—morning, noon, and evening—is part of its charm.

The rainy season starts late in Akita, and since the full-fledged rainy season often doesn’t begin until July, June tends to have a string of relatively sunny days. That’s why this time of year is the perfect season to enjoy the beautiful scenery of blue skies and the water’s reflection.

This is a scene you can only see right now, just after the rice planting is finished. The
ordinary rural landscape transforms into a spectacular view, unique to this season.

It’s the season when the sky feels closest all year. It looks like we’ll be able to
enjoy this beautiful reflection for a while yet.
