Will this be the last chance to see it for six years? The submerged forest of Akisen Lake offers a breathtaking view that’s only available now

I heard that starting next year, the submerged forest at Lake Shusenko will no longer be visible, so I’ve been looking at photos I took there in the past.

The submerged forest at Lake Shusen in Semboku City, Akita Prefecture, is a landscape created when the lake’s water level rises due to snowmelt, submerging the bases of the trees. Because it looks as if the forest is floating on the lake, it is called the “submerged forest.”

The sight of trees standing as if floating on the emerald-blue lake is a special sight unique to this season. The scene woven by the calm lake surface and the fresh greenery is like looking at a painting.

In fact, this year marks the end of this view for the time being. Long-term construction work is scheduled at the power plant, and it is said that the submerged forest will not reappear for another six years.

The best time to view it is from May through mid-June. This year, it is said you can enjoy it until around the middle of this month.
